NOTICES - Compliance Statements

The Kent City Community School District will advise students, parents/guardians, employees, and the general public that Kent City Community Schools will not discriminate in its programs or activities.  The following individuals will coordinate compliance activities and investigate complaints of non-compliance for:

Nondiscrimination Statement

KENT CITY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.  It is the policy of the Kent City Community School District that no person shall, on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, age or handicap, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination, in employment or any of its programs or activities.

 

Pesticide Notification

As part of the Kent City Community Schools’ Pest Management Program, pesticides are occasionally applied to the school grounds and/or buildings.  You have the right to be informed prior to any pesticide applications made.  In certain emergencies, pesticides may be applied without prior notice, but you will be provided notice following any such application.  If you need prior notification, please complete a form and submit it to the principal’s office of the building in which your child is enrolled.  These forms may be picked up or sent to you from any school office.  You may also contact Steve Lampe, 200 North Clover Street, Kent City, 616-678-7714, if you have any questions regarding this notice.

 


Right to Access And Privacy of Student Records

All parents and guardians of students under 18 years of age and all students 18 years of age or over have the right pursuant to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, to examine the official records, files and data of the school district directly relating to the student.  They also have the right to challenge any of the contents of said records to insure their accuracy and fairness.  Procedures for such examination and challenge, including hearings on a challenge, have been established by the Board of Education and will be made available upon request.

No records, files or data directly relating to an individual student shall be made available to anyone without the consent and notification of the student or of the parents or guardians of a student under 18 years of age, except (1) teachers and officials of this school district who have a legitimate education interest in such information;  (2) there has been a federal request for submission of student records in connection with a student’s application for financial aid;  or (3) when a request for transfer of records is made by a school in which the student seeks or intends to enroll.

All requests for examination of records made by parents or guardians and eligible students shall be directed to the Office of the Principal having custody of such records.

The school district may disclose “Directory Information” from the educational records of a student.  Kent City has defined the following as “Directory Information”:  name of student, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, awards received and class designation.  If a parent or student (18 years or over) refuses to permit the disclosure of any or all of the categories of “Directory Information”, the school district must be notified in writing.
